This is one of Regency's famous butterfly brooches - this same design can be see in Julia C. Carroll's book, Costume Jewelry 101, on page 230 in a different colored, japanned version.

This gorgeous butterfly has a turquoise milkstone body, and multicolored rhinestones of blue, green, lilac and purple for the wings. The metal is silvertone and there is an oval cartouche with the Regency signature. Measures 2 1/4 wide by 2 1/4 long. This brooch is in excellent vintage condition.
